Widmerpool Sunday 15th June
The sun shone down yesterday at the Fun Day in Widmerpool with a wonderful turn out of dogs of all ages and abilities. Everyone had a go at the games on offer - dogs and handlers alike, who needs to go to the gym for a workout!!! The youngest member of the group a six month old wire astounded her owners by picking up her first (very large) bird and proudly trotting around showing all the oldies what she had, trying to get it off her was another matter!
Hazel was a little worried as she had only brought 8 eggs with her, for the dog equivalent of the egg and spoon race, but to all our delight most of the dogs managed to retrieve them without breaking any – there were a couple of rogues who chose to eat the egg immediately or indeed roll on it, good for coat conditioning though.
The water retrieves on the lake went really well with all dogs participating. It was a fantastic site to see over 10 dummies being thrown in and all the wires jumping in together. All dog were amazingly well behaved and got on really well together and most importantly all the ducks and ducklings were still in one piece at the end of the day.
Thanks to Keith Scattergood for the use of his excellent land and lake – a perfect location and the extra special treat of "cow pat pie" for the wires !!
