HWVA Criteria for the Judges Lists
2010-2011
Provisos
A condition of an applicant’s inclusion in the Associations Judges Lists is that the applicant agrees to write a critique on their judging of the Breed and submits it to the canine press within the required time limit.
Meeting the criteria outlined in the GUIDELINES for the A1 – A2 – A3 – B and C LISTS does not mean automatic approval. The final decision for approval rests with the Judges Sub-Committee of the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association.
A1 List

A3 List
People who would be supported by The HWVA to award Challenge Certificates if invited to do so. The criteria for this list are:
Breed Specialists
- To have a minimum of 7 years judging experience in HWV and have the support of The HWVA.
- To have judged the breed at a minimum of 5 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread.
- To have judged a minimum of 50 HWV.
- To have attended at least one breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.
- To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book (Save in exceptional circumstances).
- To have stewarded at 12 shows.
Non Specialists
- To have a minimum of 7 years judging experience in any one breed (to include 5 years in HWV) and have the support of The HWVA.
- To have judged the breed at a minimum of 5 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread
- To have judged a minimum of 55 HWV.
- To have awarded CC’s in at least one other breed.
- To have attended at least one breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.
- To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book (Save in exceptional circumstances).
A3 (Overseas Judges)
Judges must be approved to award Challenge Certificates or their equivalent in the Gundog group in their native country, have demonstrated an involvement in the breed and have the support of the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association.
B List
People who are approved by and have the support of The HWVA to judge the breed at
Open Shows and Championship shows without Challenge Certificates.
Breed Specialists
- To have a minimum of 3 years judging experience in HWV and have the support of The HWVA.
- To have a minimum of 6 years experience of owning and exhibiting HWV.
- To have judged the breed at a minimum of 3 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread.
- To have judged a minimum of 20 HWV.
- To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures.
- To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.
- To have attended a Conformation and Movement “Hands-on Assessment” conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment.
- To have stewarded at 6 shows.
Non Specialists
- To have a minimum of 3 years judging experience in HWV and have the support of The HWVA.
- To have 6 years experience of owning and exhibiting their own breed.
- To have judged with a wide geographical spread
- To have judged the breed at a minimum of 3 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs
- To have judged a minimum of 25 HWV.
- To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures.
- To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.
- To have attended a Conformation and Movement “Hands-on Assessment” conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment.
- To have stewarded at 6 shows.
B List (Overseas Judges)
Judges must have demonstrated an active involvement with the breed or other Hunt, Point, Retrieve breeds, be approved to judge Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas in their own country and have the support of the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association.
C List
Breed Specialists
For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the breed and have the support of the HWVA.
Non Breed Specialists
For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the breed and have the support of the HWVA.
NB:
From 1st January 2011 it will become a mandatory requirement for judges to have attended a Kennel Club Field Trial at Open Stake level, or an Open Gundog Working Test for the relevant gundog sub-group, before being considered to award Kennel Club Challenge Certificates for the first time.
